Amanda Castro

Associate Choreographer for Gypsy on Broadway, Glimmerglass Opera’s The House on Mango Street, and most recently seen performing in Jelly’s Last Jam at New York City Center, Amanda Castro is a Bessie award-winning Puerto Rican-American multidisciplinary artist rooted in rhythm. Featured on Dance Magazine's “25 to Watch”, Castro is a graduate of California Institute of the Arts where she studied under Glen Eddy of Nederlands Dans Theatre and Andre Tyson from the Ailey Company. At New York City Center, she has been a feature collaborative choreographer with Ayodele Casel in their piece “El Camino“ in Casels evening length work “Where We Dwell”. She is a founder and active performing company member in Soles of Duende, an all female percussive trio rooted in Tap (Amanda Castro) Kathak (Brinda Guha), and Flamenco (Arielle Rosales). Originally joining Urban Bush Women in 2013, she has toured all over the country and Europe for their 30th Anniversary tour and completed UBW’s 40th Anniversary “This Is Risk” tour this season. Amanda has gone on to star in musical theater and opera productions such as Singing In the Rain in the role of Kathy Seldon, Jared Grimes’ ensemble in 42nd Street, “atomic” performances as Anita in Glimmerglass Festival’s West Side Story (NYT) and Lyric Opera of Chicago, and Il Trovatore, among others. Commissioned for a short film investigating Cooperstown agricultural community entitled “On Trac|<“ Castro has worked for and collaborated on various projects with artists from around the country including Camille A. Brown, Justin Peck, Dormeshia, Julio Monge, Caleb Tiecher, Michael Heitz, Jared Grimes, Francesca Zambello, and many more. She’s been fortunate to work with innovative artists in the field and is constantly on the search to be a part of stories that help elevate our collective humanity. @acastrodance
